I Will See You in Hell

Toward the end of 2009, I got serious about my health. I quit smoking. I started running. I went paleo.
November, 2009 I ran my first races: a 5k and a 5 mile Turkey Trot. Some friends invited me to join them at monthly Hash Runs. I ran through the winter and was ready for my first half marathon in May, which I ran in just over 2 hours. Then it was the Bix 7, a hilly seven mile course. In September, I ran my first marathon in just under 5 hours.
In the course of that year:
- I lost about 20lbs and went from 33 inch pants down to 30 inches.
- I went to Colorado with my brother and we hiked over 20 miles on 5 peaks in one day.
- Ran over 300 miles
After I ran my marathon, I took a few weeks off from running. And then a few more, and a few more. And now it has been three months and I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've gone out for a run. I've started smoking and eating crap again, too.
The marathon was my carrot; it kept me focused on the future and what I needed to do. I'm one of those people who needs a goal to get anything done, but when I have a goal, I can do anything.
Enter Crossfit: something that I've wanted to do almost as long as I had been training for the marathon, but put it off until after that race. Then there wasn't the money, or time, or it was too far to get there; there was always a reason not to sign up. Then, as a Chrsitmas gift, my wife gave me the money for a Crossfit membership. I will start next week. I haven't exercised regularly for 3 months, so this is gonna hurt like hell.
